The number of patients a hospital can handle changes based on staffing. Hospitals can also expand in times of crisis. Since April 3, North Shore Medical Center's max ICU capacity has decreased 28.6 percent, from 56 to 40. Their total beds have decreased 28.0 percent from 354 to 255.
