July 18, 2009 — Riviera Beach

Police responded to a call from the mother of Ramon Gomez, who said that her son had attacked her.

They recognized the name because they had arrested him the night before on a simple battery charge. Police said that when two officers arrived at their apartment, 19-year-old Gomez, who weighed more than 300 pounds, resisted arrest. Both officers tried to use their Tasers, but Gomez shoved one officer's hands through a window and used his fists to pummel him. The other officer fired his service weapon, wounding Gomez. Read more
