Jan. 4, 2009 — Jacksonville

Police officers and deputy U.S. marshals were following Justin McMillian, 24, a suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Danielle Stubbs.

During a traffic stop, authorities said McMillian got out of a car and fired at officers. Canine Officer Kenneth Bowen shot McMillian several times. A gun found at the scene was linked to Stubb's murder.

McMillian was later convicted of murder, attempted murder and battery on a Law enforcement officer. He was sentenced to death for Stubbs' murder and 30 years for shooting at Bowen. Read more
