June 12, 2009 — Jacksonville

Officer Perry Yarber noticed Ronald Evans, 26, driving a truck similar to a one linked to several burglaries.

He followed the truck and turned on his blue lights. Evans drove through a stop sign and pulled into a driveway, running away from the truck before it came to a stop.

Yarber began chasing him on foot and used his Taser on him. Evans fell but then got up and kept running, pulling out a chrome pistol. Read more

Seeing the weapon, Yarber fired at Evans three times. One shot hit him in the lower back.

Evans was sentenced to a decade in prison for fleeing and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

After the shooting, police determined Evans was wanted on a month-old arrest warrant for nearly running over a woman while speeding away from a routine traffic stop.

This was the 64th police shooting in Florida in 2009.

Six days earlier, two officers shot one person in Fort Lauderdale .

Two days later, one officer shot one person in Miami Beach .
