Dec. 4, 2011 — Hollywood

Officer Jaime Cerna stopped Kareem Jabar McDonald, 38, who matched the description of a man who had just committed an armed robbery.

McDonald was on a bicycle. Cerna drew his weapon but did not point it at McDonald.

McDonald allegedly reached for something under his shirt, in his waistband. Cerna fired one shot at him, wounding him in the upper arm. Read more

McDonald was later identified by the victim as the person who robbed him at knife-point. He did not have a knife on him when he was stopped.

McDonald was found guilty of robbery with no weapon and sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison.

This was the 123rd police shooting in Florida in 2011.
