Oct. 5, 2011 — Hialeah

Hialeah police got a tip from a confidential source that a 2002 Cadillac Escalade was en route to commit an armed robbery.

Officers watched the vehicle, then executed a "high risk stop." Police say the vehicle smashed into cars, then reversed in the direction of a detective. Multiple officers opened fire, striking the driver, Dwight Patterson, 23, and passenger, Elvis Abreu, 25. Both survived.

Patterson was eventually sentenced to two years in prison for aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.

This was the 101st police shooting in Florida in 2011.

The same day, one officer shot one person in Pembroke Pines .

Two days later, one officer shot one person in Miami Gardens .
