Jan. 12, 2011 — Boynton Beach

Sheri Carter, 29, had a bachelor's degree in English and was studying for the Law School Admissions test.

She also ran a profitable escort service out of her apartment.

She refused to have sex with him.

Prosecutors said that he became enraged, handcuffed Carter and shot her twice — once in the abdomen and once in the neck, severing her spine.

She died four days later.

Ho said that he fired in self-defense during a struggle. He was convicted of first-degree murder and kidnapping in 2014 and sentenced to life in prison.

Ho had been fired by the Broward County Sheriff's Office in 2004 after he was charged with battery against his wife.

Carter's mother, Sandi Cooper, sued FAU saying it was negligent for hiring him. A confidential settlement was announced in February 2015.

This was the fifth police shooting in Florida in 2011.
