April 20, 2014 — Kissimmee

During a traffic stop in the Indian Point subdivision, Deputy Michael MacCallum realized ex-convict and "habitual offender" Ridge White had a warrant for violating probation.

He also believed he saw drugs in White's car.

As MacCallum tried to arrest White, who had just turned 26, he broke away. The deputy caught up with him and the two began to fight. Read more

A resident tried to help the deputy, who was being pummeled. White tried to run but the deputy fired five rounds at him. White was critically injured but recovered. He had been released from prison in October, convicted of burglary and sexual battery.

He was convicted in May 2016 of battery against the deputy and resisting arrest with violence.

This was the 38th police shooting in Florida in 2014.

Five days earlier, two officers shot one person in Leesburg .
