Jan. 17, 2013 — Fruitland Park

Lake County sheriff's Deputies Jason Dunlap and Billy Walls were looking for Jeremy Donye Walker, who wanted in an assault.

When they tracked Walker, 25, to a home in Fruitland Park, they said that he jumped in a car and accelerated toward Dunlap. Dunlap opened fire with a high-powered rifle, striking Walker five times, including a shot in the back.

Walker survived the shooting and, months later, was found not guilty of trying to run over the deputies. "There was just no evidence he was trying to run over the deputies," defense lawyer Chmari Anderson told the Daily Commercial. Read more

The jury convicted Walker on a marijuana charge and resisting without violence but found him not guilty of aggravated assault on an officer and possession of cocaine.

Dunlap was cleared in the shooting.

This was the 14th police shooting in Florida in 2013.

The same day, one officer shot one person in Miami .

Four days later, one officer shot one person in Vero Beach .
