Michael Camberdella, 18 and autistic, was fatally shot by Palm Beach County sheriff's Deputy William Goldstein.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Goldstein was responding to a report of a domestic disturbance from Camberdella's parents and found him holding pruning shears and a rubber mallet.

The deputy told the 18-year-old to drop the objects and get on the ground. Read more

Michael Camberdella dropped the shears and the mallet but walked toward Goldstein, took something out of his waistband and threw it at the deputy.

Goldstein fired 11 times, and one round struck Camberdella in the heart, killing him.

The objects turned out to be four lava rocks. In February 2013, the State Attorney's Office cleared Goldstein of wrongdoing and a sheriff's internal investigation did the same in March.

In August 2013, Camberdella's family sued the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.

The lawsuit was reportedly settled for more than $1 million in 2016.

This was the 108th police shooting in Florida in 2012.
