March 29, 2014 — Boca Raton

Off-duty Deputy Albert Alfonso was arguing with a couple who he said were having sex at the pool in the complex where he lived.

He asked Anthony Ribeiro and his girlfriend, Jeanne McKenna, to leave.

The deputy said that they returned later, and Ribeiro raised an empty wine bottle over his head in a "threatening manner." Alfonso shot Ribeiro five times as he advanced toward the deputy. Ribeiro survived. Read more

McKenna claimed that Ribeiro, who had been drinking, swore at Alfonso, who jumped up from his chair and shot her boyfriend.

The state attorney's investigation, which cleared Alfonso, said that security video did not match McKenna's claim that Deputy Alfonso advanced toward Ribeiro.

This was the 29th police shooting in Florida in 2014.

Eight days earlier, one officer shot one person in Jacksonville .

Six days later, one officer shot one person in Boca Raton .
