Oct. 14, 2011 — Miami

Officer Carlos Ramos as conducting a traffic stop when a man, driving erratically, narrowly missed him.

Police lost sight of the car but spotted it several hours later. An attempt to pull over driver Jose Hernandez, 34, failed and he struck several police vehicles as he escaped, authorities said.

Hernandez stopped a short distance away but as officers approached, they say that he tried to run them over. Officer Carlos Ramos opened fire, killing Hernandez. One officer was slightly injured. Read more
