Feb. 17, 2011 — New Port Richey

Pasco County Sheriff's Office deputies and New Port Richey Police Department officers stopped a car for a minor violation at a location known for drug activity.

Three of the four occupants obeyed orders to get out. The fourth, passenger Jason A. Wilson, 29, refused to leave the car.

Authorities said he grabbed a gun next to him fired once at the officers, who returned fire. Read more

Deputy Paul Downey and Officer Anthony Pedrero each fired 11 times. Wilson was struck eight times and killed.

The deputy and officer were cleared by the State Attorney's Office.

This was the 22nd police shooting in Florida in 2011.

Three days earlier, three officers shot two people in Orlando .

22 days later, one officer shot one person in Jacksonville .
